The Little Old Log Cabin in the Lane by Fiddlin’ John Carson (1923)

CD 6, track 2

As the story goes, Fiddlin’ John Carson’s 1923 disc of “The Little Old Log Cabin in the Lane” is the record that proved the existence of a rural market for old-time or “hillbilly” music. Allegedly only 500 copies were made for the Atlanta trade, but when it sold out in days and had to be repressed, national executives took notice and began searching the mountains of Appalachia for more musicians to record.
